A beautiful 2,000-year-old Roman sandal was discovered in Spain
Thousands of years ago, a person was washing up a well in Roman Spain
when one of their leather sandals slipped off their foot. Archaeologists have discovered
the missing shoe of the well cleaner 2,000 years later.
Archaeologists uncovered the discovery this summer while excavating Lucus Asturum
a Roman colony in northern Spain. Researchers used a pulley mechanism to safely explore
the depths of the stone-lined well, where they discovered the beautifully painted
Roman sandal submerged in mud around 10 feet (3 meters) below ground level
